Rumsey & Bugg is led by father and son team of A. Davis “Dave” Bugg, Jr., and Albert “Tripp” Bugg, III. The practice was founded in 1994 by Dave Bugg and Dexter Rumsey, to bring the highest caliber of legal representation to the people of the Northern Neck. Today, we continue our commitment to this community and its people, with legal representation in a full range of specialty areas.
A. DAVIS “DAVE” BUGG, JR.
Dave Bugg has substantial experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of civil cases. He has been published in numerous law journals, and he currently practices in the Circuit Courts of Virginia in the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula, Hampton Roads, Williamsburg, and Richmond areas as well as before the Federal District Courts in Richmond, Norfolk and Newport News. Dave has argued before the Federal Fourth Court of Appeals, the Court of Appeals of Virginia and the Supreme Court of Virginia. His Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating is AV, which is the highest given, showing that he is recognized by his peers for the highest level of skill and integrity. He is a member and former President of the Northern Neck Bar Association, and a member of the Virginia Bar Association and the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys. Dave is a graduate of Davidson College and the University of Richmond School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review.
ALBERT D. “TRIPP” BUGG, III
Tripp Bugg represents clients in complex civill litigation or in defense of criminal charges throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia at all court levels. He also provides legal advice on contracts, forms and resolutions for business entities. In addition to his membership in the Virginia State Bar, the American Bar Association, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association and the Northern Neck Bar Association, he serves on the Christchurch School alumni council, the Chesapeake Academy Board of Trustees, and on the governing board of Northern Neck Assembly. He was also recently elected mayor of Irvington, Virginia, proof of his commitment to preserving the quality of life in this region. Tripp is a graduate of Dickinson College and the Loyola University New Orleans School of Law.
DEXTER C. RUMSEY, III 1942-2015
While our founding partner Dexter Rumsey passed away in 2015, his sense of integrity and honor lives on in the spirit of our firm. Specializing in estate and trust law, Mr. Rumsey built up this practice for more than 45 years. During his distinguished career, he was named a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation, the American Bar Foundation, and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. Mr. Rumsey served on the executive committee of the Virginia Bar Association and was Chairman of the Trust and Estate Section of the Virginia State Bar. He was a community leader in Lancaster County, and a great friend and mentor to all.
